Default engine light and transmission

Hi all
I have a 2006 1500 2wd
yesterday while going down the highway the truck gently studdered and the engine light came on. Since then it will not shift automaticly. Shifts fine manualy but seems to be stuck in drive.
I work out of town so I cannot test until the weekend.
Any ideas would be great.
Thanks.

Sounds like it's in limp mode.
Check for codes, you will probably have a generic p0700 ( transmission error) you need a proper obdII code reader to read the further diagnostics codes.

Welcome to the site. Agreed on the limp mode. You may want to download the service manual from the links on my sig to read up on it more but in the mean time, limp it to the nearest auto parts store and ask them to scan it for CEL (check eng lights) or DTC codes and post them back here so we can help you out more.

How many miles is on the 06 and when was the last time you change transmission filters and fluid?

OK
I just pulled the code and it reads P0750 shift solinoide.
I have 180,000 kilometers on it and the trans fluid and filter changed at 120,000 km.
Is this solinoide inside the tranny?
Thanks Work Truck.

Yes. The pan will have to be dropped.

Does it still drive bad or do you just have codes remaining?

I was worried about the same thing, found a used tranny with only 75000 km for 400$ and went that route.

Have you checked the connections at the trans and the tpm?

I have a '99 Ram 1500 and it has been doing the same thing and I did take it to parts store and here are the codes if anyone can help with it
Only thing different is when mine does this I can pullover or just put the truck in park and shut off engine and after restarting it shifts fine.

P0139-O2 sensor
Po138-O2 sensor
P1757-Unknown-OE
P1763-Unknown-OE
P1762-Unknown-OE

Any help would be greatly appreciated

thxs, Scott

Your codes are ...

1757 Transmission control pressure not equal to target. (Zero pressure problem)
1762 The Governor Pressure Sensor input was too high or too low for 3 consecutive park/neutral calibrations.
1763 The Governor Pressure Sensor input is too high
