Default Dealer says my pinion gear is going bad.

All this analysis from a simple drive down the road and back! OK. I have a warranty. So ... FIX IT! I wanted to use AMSOIL in the rear dif. I asked them what weight and they told me 75w 140. According to my book and the AMSOIL site, it takes 75w 90 OR 75w 110 for severe service. SO ... waddyathink?!?

Well, the rearend guy at the dealer probably knows what it sounds like when bad, so yeah, fix it.
I would go with what the manual says. If you don't, they can test it and void the warranty down the road and blame any failure on the wrong fluid.
I have the lifetime powertrain warranty myself and I am doing all maintenance by the book.
Heck, with the coupons that Dodge emails me and a coupon book that came with the truck from my dealer, I let them do the oil changes because it is cheaper than I can do it myself.

The 75w90 is a little thinner and will give a little better mpg but yet enough protection.
