Remote Keyless Entry Question?
If I go aftermarket remote start is there a way to use a different type key so that I don't have to have the factory FOB and an extra remote?
I see there are 2 types of Sentry keys. 1 with the buttons and another for vehicles with a seperate keyless entry remote or without keyless entry.
I have the FOB on the right.
Can the left one program to work?

I have an'07 Ram i bought used, that came with both types of keys you show(one with buttons and 2 without) and 2 aftermerket remote start fobs. I never even tried the factory key that has buttons on it, but everything else works fine.

just find the fob with the start button already on it and have it programed

Who programmed that key and how?
I also have an aftermarket starter/alarm combo and did not want to have the stock bulky key. I bought the Gray blank key off Ebay for $25 shipped and paid my local key cutter $1 for the cut. Now, if the cut goes bad, your out $25 because they will only refund you the cut cost.
Here is a key that has instructions on HOW TO PROGRAM
HERE is another one. Those are close to end auctions, you might need to click on description to read the ended auction so to read the programming method.
Your best bet is to get a spare key NOW before you lose an original. If you have lost and original you'll need to bend over and go to the dealer or a locksmith. They can program a key you bring in, but they won't warranty the time or cut.

Yes you can use the key on the left. When I bought all 3 of my Dodges on 2008, I ordered a grey key off of eBay for each one and had my local Walmart cut them. I then followed the easy instruction that came with the keys and now have 3 keys for each.
I did this so that I would always have 2 good keys incase one got lost or damaged so I can always have 2 good ones and can reprogram a 3rd.
I got them all from Amazing Keys on eBay. Joe Friday always ships fast and is priced right.

That's good info Dirtydog. I thought that because I only have one keyfob that I would have to have someone program for me, but according to those links, I can use my grey key to kick off the programming process
Now to find out how to install factory remote start :P

I figured as much. The stealership had tried to convince me that those keys would not work but they did not know I'm a member of this forum and can get great info from people here.
I think these will work.
