low RPM and schedule A (maintenance) tranny fluid
Hi, I did search and found some bits and pieces of what I am looking for but curious as to the normal RPM range for the 4.7L engine. My truck will idle at 500-600 but then drop down to 300 which seems very low to me. The truck idles smooth (slight engine vibration but assuming that is normal as its very light). I am taking it in to my mechanic who wants to check the IAC valve and TPS unit but do you agree 300 RPM is too low?
Also, I searched my owners manual high and low and for the life of me I can not find where it says when to change the tranny fluid under schedule A. I can find it under schedule B (severe driving) but nothing for schedule A. Do I need new glasses? thanks

color of tranny fluid
thanks. I am due for a fluid change then in about 5k miles. I always thought tranny fluid was a pinkish/red color but when I check my fluid its almost colorless, clear but colorless. Is this normal for Dodge tranny fluid to be colorless? In my Fords they were always a slight pink color as well as on my other non-dodge vehicles.
I just got the truck so not sure of the history so assuming it is the original fluid but the colorless appearance threw me off. thanks

@ BlueRam06 - It is normal for the trans oil to lose color as it is only a dye. There is info on that in the Service Manuals which are located for download in my signature links.
@ biggen112345 - IMO, everything has been figured out already. These trucks have been on the streets long enough and run enough miles where the problems guys are seeing are no longer new issues. However, one of the biggest issues we see here with guys coming and share issues is that they do not share enough information like year, make, model, eng, mileage, maint records, ECT

Thanks for the link to service manual. In reading about the fluid it just says that the red is a dye but as the fluid gets older the red goes away and it would get darker.
My fluid is clear, no color, not dark but clear, like white corn syrup. I just hope someone did not put in the wrong fluid before I got the truck since its neither red nor dark...

Well the mechanic thought the IAC would fix the low idle problem. Put a new one in and it does the same thing.
I pointed it out to him when I went to pick it up and he hooked up his little scanner below the dash and said it is fine, he thinks the computer in the dash is bad and giving a false RPM reading via the tach. I still paid for the darn IAC work but that is another issue.
I guess its ok even though it says I idle at 300 rpm's. It never stalled and sounds ok, very quiet idle with a very slight vibration, which I assume is normal.
(I mentioned the TPS thing to him and he does not feel that alone would give a low RPM and that I would be experiencing other symptoms, not a low RPM)
