where is external vent?
#11
Bought it used with 13k. No reason for the previous owner to remove the door as it was under warranty. The dealer is mystified as to where the recirc door is. They said it could have dropped into an inacessable area. I find it hard to believe, but I have no recourse. There is residue of duct tape on the recirc cabin intake. But as I have no access to the previous owner, and chrysler has no records of the truck being in for HVAC service, I am on my own. Aside from spending 800 on having the HVAC serviced, I figured this was the only way.

thanks for the info Jeff on where to find the external vent. Since your re-circ door is missing it sounds like you are not the first owner but if you spent 40k on a truck it sounds like it was new when you got it so curious as to what happened to that re-circ door.
Anyway, your info was very helpful. I have my re-circ door so not sure yet if I am going to rig it into place from the inside or do what you did..

I blocked my intake from the outside. My recirc door is actually missing. Really, I searched everywhere for it but couldn't find it. So, since I couldn't use it to block the fresh from the inside, that was my only solution. The intake is located under the plastic cowl. Loosen the two screws that hold it from the top. No need to remove wipers, as you just need to lift it a few inches. Remove the plastic clips under the hood. On passenger side of cowl, lift and prop it up with a piece of wood or whatever.
You will see a foil covered adhesive rubber covering a hole in the steel. Gently remove it. Now you will see the screened intake. Barely. I used foil HVAC tape. Cut it into strips, and stuck it right to the screen. Your hands will get a little bloody doing this, as the screen is larger than what you can see, and the opening is just large enough to get a hand in. Really pisses me off that I have a $40k truck and this is what I have to deal with.

Even 23k is a lot of money to spend to have to deal with such issues. Best of luck to both of us..

Even when my truck was under warranty it never went to the dealer for repairs or work. I can do everything myself and our dealer where is not only shady but very slow. So it sounds like the PO fixed a problem himself also.
Since that is the only conclusion, I agree. Wish I could ask him or her.

That is the only conclusion I can come to as well. Wish I could ask him or her.
