the other day i noticed that my console is hollow in the middle if you take off the vinyl it'll open and close like a clam ... two things ... how do i completely take off the existing vinyl and where do i get the factory setup to mod this?

 

Are you saying you bought your truck with no armrest compartment or am I missing something?

 

here's some pictures of what i'm talking about ... it would appear that while the way i recieved my truck the console does not open ... but upon further inspection it does! ... however, there is what appears to be a vinyl slip cover over it to keep me from opening it ...

I guess you can take the cover off and find out for sure. You are right, it looks like you have the console but they just covered it. To me it looks like you have the makings of a custom console on your hands.

 

you think it's as simple as removing the console from the truck ... then removing the cover and then having it reapohlstered?

 

It sure would be nice, wouldn't it. You'd have to develop a latch system or something. If it were me, I'd just find one at a salvage yard.

 

Your best bet would be to pull a latch off a wrcked truck. I just got of the phone with the dealer and you cannot buy just the latch. You have to buy the whole lid assembly for a whopping $169.00. Godd luck.

 

What year and model truck do you have? I have an 04 ST with a similar console. I have a habit of leaning on the armrest when I get in and I almost swear it has moved before. LOL.

I will probably be getting rid of the truck this month, but when I got it I was planning on getting parts to make it a close match to an SLT. Oh well.
