Default Towing from the bumper?

Can this be done? If so, what is the weight allowance? Reason I ask is next month is a drag racing event, that I would like to go to....Normally, I would take the 'stang up there alone, but this time I was thinking of trailer queening it up there since it has no plates on it yet...

Well, the trailer weight limit is 5,000#, tongue weight 500#. Here in the States, most states require trailer brakes for that much weight. I suspect you'd be at or above the limit. How far is the trip?

According to the 2004 Dodge Ram Towing Guide, a 4.7, 5 speed Ram with NO tow package can safely tow 3500 lbs. from a ball installed on the rear bumper (step pad).

Capacity rises dramatically with the addition of the tow package (tranny cooling, frame mounted receiver hitch, etc.) Properly equipped, with 3.92 gears, a 4.7, 5 speed manual Ram 1500 is rated to tow 6350 lbs. and with the 5 speed automatic transmission, is rated to tow 7350 lbs.

Thanks guys....It's about a 50 mile trip one way. The Mustang weighs in at a little over 2500 lbs. Speeds here with a trailer are limited to 80 kmh.

Yep, I should add that along with the 3500# capacity is a 350# tongue weight limit...

I'm 240, and I don't even like standing on the bumper.

your better off just getting a hitch installed for $180 then chancing around with jacking up your bumper. do it right the first time...im sure this wont be the only thing you ever tow with your truck again.

Here in the northeastern US, road salt would have weakened the bumper and brackets. Just my two cents.
