Default Don't get the gas mileage I'm seeing?

I was looking at the post above about gas mileage, and noticed that so many people were all over the board. What's the deal with that? About half say they get 19.5 avg mpg, and the other half said 13.5-14.5. I just figured out my mpg on my current Ford Ranger with the 4.0 v6, and it came out to 16.2 miles per gallon mostly city.

Do you think I can expect 16 mpg city when I get my Ram?

It's going to vary quite a bit from one truck to the next due to model, driving habits, weather conditions, where they drive, etc.

My average for my truck is around 16.5 MPG around here with a best MPG of 22.1 on the highway.
Last week I got 19.5 MPG coming through the West Virginia mountains running the AC the whole time and 5-7 MPH over the posted speedlimit.

That's pretty good becuase my ranger was getting 19.2 all highway on my last road trip...no AC. If my new Ram was to get that mileage I would be thrilled! Hopfully I'll get 1-2 mpg better with the MDS.

Yeah, that's my point. One minute I hear 20 mpg, the next it's 12. You should just have your father clear out his miles guage on the next fill up. Then the next time he put's in gas, top her off and devide miles by gallons.

Pay close attention to what the poster is driving. Most of those higher HEMI MPG numbers are coming off of 2x4 regular cab trucks, and most of the lower MPG's are coming from 4x4's and QC's....there is a huge weight difference between the different models, and also it can make a pretty big difference at the pumps. My '04 4x4 QC Hemi gets about 12.5 MPG according to the console, but then again I drive it with my foot all the way in it, mostly on short commutes, and it has MTR's.

As mopartodd said how and where you drive is probably the biggest factor. I have a QC 4x4 and consistantly average 15-16, but that at about 85% 2 lane highway driving just under 65mph. My worse was 11.5 while towing a 4K boat and my best was just under 19 on a long 2 lane highway road trip. I also have a cap, but didn't really see an improvement after I installed it.
