It all depends on what the application is.
The gas engine is reliable as an everyday driver. It can be modded decently to get some large gains.
The diesel is crazy, banks power has enough go fast goodies to pump it up to 500 horse and 1000ft/lbs.!!!! But it is a diesel, and not practical for an everyday driver and occasional tow vehicle.

I have to agree with FatherKind totally. I don't have much use for a diesel. I bought my truck as a play toy more than a work horse. You can do a lot with both motors to get the horsepower and torque you need to get the job done, but I prefer a gasoline engine for what I do.

i had a 2000 2500 QC 4x4, 5.9 gas with intake, exhaust, throttle body spacer...it had great power and was fun to drive. now i have 2500 QC 4x4 6 spd diesel, 4.10 gears, straight pipe exhaust, cold air intake, and a VanAiken box...feels like it has twice the power and acceleration as my 2000 did(it has more than twice the torque)...and the sound is awesome. my 2000 got 11.5-12 mpg and my 2004 gets about 15.5-16 and getting better. i am diesel all the way
