Default $500 for a power steeering Pump???

OK so in the last couple of years I have have replaced the Power Steering pump 4 times. This included the most recent replacmeent in May. At that time I also replaced the gear box. Now it is out again.

When I go to get another one, Napa say it will be over $500 for the new pump. How ever the new pump comes with a new bracket, resivoir and the pump. the old pump has no bracket. So wth labor it looks likes another $900.

I hear that there have been a ton of problems with the 2 piece set up and the pumps... Including a national backorder that is 6 weeks out. I am so upset about this I am probably never going to buy a dodge again. A faulty design, and several years to come up with a fix. when it comes it will cost nearly a grand? I have 3 over vehicles and the repair and maintenance on them combined is less than on my dodge, and it gets fewer miles...

Anyone else heard of this? Maybe the "new" parts are a different dodge set up and I can find it at a junk yard?

Rock Auto has a cast iron Ford pump with reservoir for the Ram for $161 including the core charge. From what I've read, they're not difficult to change.

You JUST replaced it in MAY? Seems to me it might be covered by warranty, or could possibly be returned as defective? Its JUST now July!

I have, the local NAPA says they go through them fast. I did some more checking and low and be hold dodge is no longer selling the original pumps at all and from what I can tell Oriellys Napa and carquest have all quit selling the original pump. I was told all because the had to replacxe too many, so many infact they were back ordered. Now they have a new one piece pump with resivoir and a new mounting bracket. total cost is over $600 at dealer and like $540 napa. I know pumps are not hard to replace, heck as i mentioned i have done mine 4 times now and the steering box as well. I am just working over 60 hours a week and do not have time to mess with my dodge.

I am even more pissed that this is design issue with the pump from dodge and the only help they are offering is new parts that they are making money off of.

Oh in addition to teh pump another common issue is the ball joints... I just replaced them as well in may... And the U joints are a mega pita, but atleast you can get after market ones. The ones from dodge were quoted at $114 each.

Sorry but I am not real happy with my first dodge.

that same new pump upgrade in Canada from dodge is 1500 bucks at one place I checked and about 1850 at another. What did you end up doing? I have an 03 and an 05 1500 and they are both on their 3rd pumps now and they both need a new one.

That's kind of a lot, I just replaced my Pump for $52 before a core charge. Then another $12 for the pulley also. It took me no time to do it also. I can't see any reason why it should cost so much. I drive a 2004 Quad Cab SLT with the 5.7 Hemi. The only problem I have left now after that and cleaning my throttle body is to fix my AC. So far all of my repairs have cost me less than $100 total.
