Default True Ignition Source

im about to add a second battery and whether its necessary or not i want to use an isolator to separate the two when the truck is off so i never get stuck again waiting for a jump

Anyway where can i find a safe to use Ignition wire. not an acc wire so the isolator can be triggered and connect both batteries when the truck is turning over. and stay connected while running then disconnect and stay separate when off

im currently using the cig lighter as an accesory source because its a factory fused acc source and id like to find a similar fused or safe ignition wire im fed up with wires coming from the tipm and them cutting off power or whatever

before i go tapping in to a wire, id like to be sure about what im using

and just to double check i am correct in sayig that acc sources such as the cig lighter are different from the ignition im looking for right??

Try some RV centers. They often carry what you need.

Nooo. I'm just asking what can I tap into for an ignition trigger.

Not to buy anything Just what wire is safe to use as Trigger for a relay. Or which one to use for ignition

I'm gonna buy an isolator that will separatethe batteries. Until the truck is starting. Then it will have two batteries powering the stater

My isolator specifically has a post that says "ALT" and wants to be run to the power source that supplies the alternator...

If im understanding you right here it is. If you take off the panel below the steering wheel and find the ignition harness. There is a pink wire with a white stripe, that is your ignition source. Hope that helps!

nice nice i sent you a pm weed

yo thunder thanks for the wire man im also curious if its ok to tap into that wire if its sensative with the tipm or anything similar i mean its only going to trigger the isolator so im guessing it wont pull too many amps

and hammer when saying the post, is that the "trigger" post or the post connecting the battery to power...

i mean ive heard of some people pulling the power for the second battery directly from the alt instead of the first battery and puting the iso inbetween that im just tryin to wrap my head around your setup

i may end up just using an accesory wire instead of ignition to connect the batterys and add a manual "12v constant" overide switch so when im starting the truck i can hold down or swithc the battery together and start the truck with two batteries capacity cranking power

ok im rambling thanks for all the input guys

I've got the Stinger, SR200 I think it is and the instructions that came with it couldn't have been simpler. Had me disconnect the main battery cable from the alternator and connect it to the "Batt 1" connector on the isolator. Then a cable is run from the "A" connector on the isolator to where the main battery cable WAS connected at the alternator. Then it's just a matter of connecting the second battery to the "Batt 2" connector on the isolator...
