Default Gas Tank Punctured HELP!

Hey guys I just bought an 07 4x4 about a month ago and of course couldn't resist taking it off road. Bad part of that tho is that I bottomed trying to climb a hill. The next day when I was cleaning underneath I noticed something was punctured with a stick, which I am 90% sure is the gas tank because when I rub my finger over it, it smells like gas. Its not a dripping leak but im guessing it losing gas somehow cause I am getting terrible gas mileage. Pretty much I was just seeing what my options are now? Is there a way to patch it? or would I have to replace it? any advice helps. Thanks!

Steel tanks are easy to repair, most auto parts stores sell a fuel tank repair kit which basically has some fiberglass matting, a small paintbrush and an epoxy. Make sure you get a kit specifically for gas tanks because the epoxy that comes with them is special and won't get eaten away by gasoline. Used to be about $20...

My 07 has a plastic fuel tank. I think you might be able to repair it with a blowtorch and a plastic welding kit.

I would drain and pull it before you did it obviously

I coulda swore my '04 is steel, but now you got me wondering. All the times I've been underneath that truck and I don't think I've ever noticed. I KNOW my 2nd Gen had a steel one. Now I'm gonna have to go look in the morning when it's light out...

Only way I know of to do it is to plastic weld it. Problem is, not only do you have to remove and empty the tank but you should also rinse the tank out with acetone before attempting to plastic weld it and you should use an actual plastic welder. Polypropylene welds at 575*, any less and you can't get a good weld, much more and you'll just make it worse. Plastic welders have exact temperature settings...

Well I was up ALL night, had a problem with my 13 year old dog, bad enough I took him to the 24/7 emergency clinic. $500 later all we know is he doesn't have parasites. Could be anything from a mild infection to advanced cancer. BUT I still had to go crawl under my truck after I got him home and settled in.
It's plastic as well. Can't believe I didn't know (and really thought it was steel), I bet I've been under that truck at least 30x and had the damn thing sitting right in front of me at eye level when I installed my lift...
