Default Infinity Speaker Option Question

I just upgraded from a 2002 Quad Cab 4.7 to a 2005 Quad Cab Hemi. It has the 7 speaker Infinity system. I plan to replace the stock head unit with an aftermarket one. Does anybody know where the existing head units brain is located at or where the speaker wiring is ran to.

Thanks!

The system is integrated into the truck's computer bus. The Infinity system's amp requires the computer to turn it on. All speakers run off the amp. If you are going to change the head unit, you may as well plan on bypassing the amp, rewiring the speaker locations, and replacing the speakers as well.

I have an 05 Laramie Quad cab as well. The 7 speaker system in it sounds like crap. I replaced the front speakers with pioneer 3 ways, but the sound is the same. All you get out of the doors is a muffled tone. Does anyone know of a way to improve this without replacing the head unit? I have Sirius with UConnect and like using my steering wheel controls. With another head unit I believe I lose those. Could I put 3 ways in the doors and tie the dash speaker wires into the doors (and pick up more tone in the doors). Sounds to easy for it to work.

Thanks

The factor speakers will sound better with a different head unit. Dodge radios are bottom of the barrel on amp quality. The speakers can actually handle more power than the amp can dish out. I would get a new head end.

You will only get lower notes on the front doors since there is a crossover for the front doors and the tweets in the dash. Rear doors are full range.

I have a 2005 QC Laramie w/Hemi....EVERY OPTION...including of course the infinity system with the 6-disc changer...

My changer broke about a month ago and while it was out getting fixed I replaced the head unit with a nice Kenwood unit along with Sirius sat. radio. I was ABLE to keep the radio controls on the wheel by adding a module for an extra 100 bucks. Anything can be done!!!

BTW...speakers sound better but the aftermarket kenwood can easily overpower the stock speakers if you get a little crazy.

***Installation is a bitch...thank god i got it installed professionally...they had to take apart the entire dash and kick panels and rewire to the stock amps, and also rewire the tweeters on top of the dash. They had to get direct lines from the new unit to each of the infinity systems amps.

overall...im very happy with my setup now.

Not to rain on your parade, but was there a reason you capped every option? Anyhow, how's the sunroof and adjustable pedals? How well does the sport package and 20" work on the 4x4? I'd tear those ground effects off in short order on rocks and stumps. I know I enjoy my 34 gallon gas tank...Sorry, just in a crappy mood today.

umm..ok found my first ******* on this site!

well...I felt like CAPPING IT....i paid for it, what difference does it make to you.

And BTW..I dont use this as a "work" truck and im not going over mountainous terrain with boulders in my way...(anyway...the "sports package" doesnt mean ground effects package....it means painted front bumper and grill and rear bumper.)

So far...Ive been through 11 inches of snow at my house upstate with my AWD and 20 inch wheels with NO problem at all.

Thanks for being so inviting.

I do believe you'd be the first on this site to call me an a$$ hole. Obviously you missed my apology on the end

It just seems that some people come here to brag about how they have eeevvveeerrryyy option and think that thier $hit doesn't stink.
well...I felt like CAPPING IT....i paid for it, what difference does it make to you.
It is also impossible to have eeevvveeerrryyy option. Point taken on the sports package...sometimes it all just runs together.

I was being serious about the sunroof. How is the wind noise, etc. Also, how does the SRT-10 ignition work with the Hemi?
