Well, according to the dealership that sold me the truck, I can pull a total trailer weight of 6500 lbs. Apparently, all V8's come with a "tow package", just not the hitch. That explains the transmission cooler and the 4 pin connector. It also came with an anti-spin differential rear axle, which is good to know.
Thanks, all, for the great info. I noticed on my options report that they printed for me a "Corporate 9.25 LD rear axle". Anyone know what that means?

Not all Rams come with the Towing Package. They come "Tow ready" with a 4-pin connector. The Towing Package that is right on my window sticker is the reciever, and the 7pin harness that includes the plug for a brake controller tucked up under the dash. Since I have the Towing package, I have both the 4pin and 7pin plugs. In order for you to run a 6500lb trailer, you will need a 7pin harness wired and ran to the dash for the brake controller. That is unless you have an out of date surge type braking trailer like they provide at uhaul or Home Depot. Those run off of 4pinners.
HERE is the 7pin wiring kit.

I tow 7k all the time. You are perfectly safe pulling 6500

*I wanted to add, Tekonsha Prodigy P3 is the best brake controller on the market. It has progressive braking feature that uses an accelerometer to adjust the voltage to the brakes accordingly. Others provide one set voltage to the brakes whether your doing 70mph or 5mph, braking hard or soft(This wears the brakes out, and provides no actual feel for the trailer...kinda unsafe IMO)

That is the standard 9.25 (light duty) AAM rearend that all 1500's come with.
If it has limited slip, your sheet will show "Anti-Spin" on it in a separate line.

For the record, according to the official Dodge literature, your QuadCab, 4.7L, shortbed with 3.55 gears is only rated to tow 6050lbs. Just to answer your original question.
