Default 02 Ram 1500 5.9 to 5.7 HEMI swap???

Well after 183k miles of solid service my trucks transmission is giving me all sorts of hell. It went from not having 2nd gear, fixed that, to no longer having lockup, to not having any gear at all.

Well as luck turns out my salvage buddy has an 08 ram that came in and he wants to work a deal on it. I can get the complete engine, trans, wiring harness, dash, anything I need to put the hemi in place, as long as I build him my spare LS1 for his early nova. But I have to remove everything from the wrecked truck.

Will my transfer case from my truck bolt on to the newer transmission??

Almost makes me want to just swap my cab and bed on to the newer chassis and be done with it.... But its not a 4x4 and I really love having my 4 wheel drive.

Will the transfer case bolt up to the newer trans that is behind the hemi? The truck is a 2wd truck I would be getting the engine and trans from, my truck is a 4wd.

I guess if I pull every damn bit of wiring and as long as the steering column is the same (and still has the radio control unit on the wheel) I should be ok to just swap it all over. Thats a ton of damn work...... but for what I have in the LS1 (zero dollars) this might be my best bet, and make my truck fresh for another 100k miles.

I do know my truck has the NP 243D transfer case. It shows different rebuild units for the later model trucks, but I am not sure if that has anything to do with the transfer case and the EEC needing to know whats going on there, or what.

Your transfer case won't work on the 545RFE straight bolt on. You would need to get an adapter and I'm not sure of any place that sells one. Best bet is to buy a used 545rfe with 4x4 already and convert your CAD to a manual cable instead of vacuum operated unit. The bodies are totally different so I'm not sure how easy it would be to swap cab and bed over. Its a lot of work but its worth it. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Hey D- I picked up a 2002 Ram 1500 Quad cab with a bad 4.7 today to put the 04' Hemi Motor and Trans. out of the Dakota in. I might need some wiring help on this 02' Ram. I know you had a 5.9 in you're ram to Hemi Swap, But the harness might be the same.."Or simular"...

I'll start a new thread this weekend and show pics....Did you have to re-work the oil pan or notch the cross member ? Or did the Hemi fit ?

If its a gen 3 the hemi should fit. Your wire harness should be plug and play too.

Default 2002 4.7 to Hemi Swap..

I don't know about plug & Play it has two different computers. But my 02 Ram has the major plug on the firewall that my Dakota didn't have. When you did you're Hemi Swap, What did you do about the wiring...Your truck is a 2002 Ram right ? I hope I don't have to go through the same crap I went through with the Dakota.
Did you get your A/C and cruise control figured out ? If so how ... Thanks , I appreciate any help..
