Overheating?
Dear you guys,
I need your help. I'm the proud owner of a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 4.7 V8, and recently it has started to overheat on me. I replaced the thermostat, and it helped the issue for a few weeks, but now the water temp needle has started to rise again. It isn't as rapid as before, but it still climbs to a little over 3/4 while in idle. I hear the coolant sloshing around (that's how we say it in the south), the water pump running, and the radiator fan working, so what else should I try in order to fix this? I plan on flushing the radiator and refilling with fresh coolant tomorrow because I believe the person who replaced my thermostat refilled everything with straight coolant, not 50/50. There is water in there, but I believe the coolant-to-water ratio is too high. Would that be the culprit?
Any thoughts will be appreciated.

where do you live? are both upper and lower rad hoses hot? that would indicate the pump is moving water, the stat is working and the rad isnt clogged. from there i would check and replace the rad cap and then look at bigger issues such as the heads and head gasket as they are a common thing on 4.7s to fail and cause over heating issues.
do a simple search on the site for over heating 4.7s and see

Thanks for the reply, man. I checked the hoses, and both the top and bottom are pretty hot. What do I need to check on the cap? I made sure it was tight and all, but it's still overheating like crazy. How would I check to see if a gasket is blown? Would coolant be in the oil?
Yes, if you blew a head gasket you'd find coolant in the oil (same with cracked heads).
DO NOT RUN THIS TRUCK UNTIL YOU FIX THE PROBLEM, 4.7s do not handle even medium over-heats well!
First thing I always do is burp the system in case there is an air bubble or two in the system. Could be cap, could be radiator itself, but burp it first...

When it overheats... dose it go all the way up? (RED) or only 3/4 of the way? Make sure none of your hoses are bent or kinked. That will reduce your flow and cause the gauge to raise!
The needle doesn't stop. If I don't shut it off, it will hit "H" in a hurry.
