Default Intermittent ABS light on 2007 Ram 1500

I have a 07 Ram 1500, with a ABS light that flashes on and off every so often. I'm trying to narrow down the solution, so I'm not spending a lot of money.

Any help would be greatful!

You need to start by scanning to see what code is stored from when the light was on.

I would unbolt the sensors and clean off the metallic dust that builds up on it. Me, I leave it that way because I don't like ABS.

Thanks for the help. I need to go and buy a chiltons manual. I have no idea where the sensors are located. Also, in my research, I've learned that there are no codes associated with this light going on and off. It just flashes every so often, and the chime that goes with it. Nothing is physically wrong with the truck, it's just that this issue is annoying.

My 02 does it too, maybe once every 3-4 months the brake and ABS light will pop on and by the time I hear the 'ding' and look down it's already off. autozone has never been able to pull any codes related to it so I'm not too worried about, maybe just a very slight wiggle in a sensor or something just to set off the alarm.

About how often is yours doing it? weeks? months?

PDX,

I found this TSB. It is the only one I could find on the 1500 that deals with ABS light coming on intermittently. Perhaps it is the issue you are having. If you want to PM me your VIN I can check for any other TSB's that may apply.

Casey,
It's happening quite a bit when I'm on surface streets, same thing, I hear the chime, and the lights gone. But, the weird thing is, on the highway, above 55, nothing. Could this be a speed sensor, which I've heard of Durango's having this problem.

Dodgecares, I'm not sure if it would be the steering angle sensor, but thanks for the idea. I'm going to keep doing research, and hopefully avoid a trip to the shop.

That's interesting, I'm pretty sure mine has chimed at fast and slow speeds, but like I said it's so rare. Speed sensors and ABS sensors would be a good place to start and clean up.
Some trucks have 2 ABS sensors (1 each side) up front and some just have one on the drivers side (it comes up a lot in this forum, I think some guys even just had one of them on the passenger side). And the speed sensor should be mounted on the rear dif. obviously the ABS sensors would be more prone to int. failures due to all the brake dust build up and dirt on the. . . um, I think it's like a ring gear in the front hubs.

I haven't noticed many posts from our site moderator, Weedahoe but he is a wealth of info, even his signature is too.

that's his user page, check out there or pull up one of his recent posts and he has links to the service manuals for our trucks in his sig.
Also don't be afraid to let DodgeCares look into your problem. He seems rather resourceful and I have not seem him lead anyone the wrong way yet.
Time to get some coffee now
