Default Transmission Test Port Location Help/ Trans Guage Install

I am installing a trans temp gauge and understand from other forums that the sending unit can be easily installed in a transmission test port. Here is an excellent discription of the process done on a 2500 with the 48RE transmission.

http://www.dodgetruckowners.org/dto/...er=asc&start=0

I have the 04 1500 5.7 Hemi with the 5-45 RFE transmission and I can not locate anything that resembles a test port as shown in these photos. If anyone has done this before and can provide some direction or provide a link to some technical diagrams of this 5-45RE I would greatly appreciate it.[sm=confused06.gif]

Thanks.

Which site? HTC.com = Goldman Sachs, a leading global investment banking firm.

Is there another site you had in mind?

Thanks.

Try www.hemitruckclub.com and find the forum section. You will find any and all info you need about your HEMI. Sorry about the confusion.

That was a great piece of advice thanks.

Check this thread for some pretty visual input on this issue.

No definitive answers yet, but a lot of good input on the tranny and the test ports. As you can see, I am still figuring out if it makes any difference with test port to use, or if there is a risk of using the wrong one.

Thanks alot.

Glad to help. I just found those guys (and gals) a couple of weeks ago and was amazed at the amount of info available.

taz,

Just coming full circle with you. Thanks for the help on this. With that diagram I was able to confirm through a trusted tranny shop here that contacted the Dodge tech line thise evening, that the #3 TCC apply is the place to put the temp sending unit. That port has contant oil and is the most accurate reading.

Thanks again.

One of the simpler sensor installs is to replace the drain-plug with it, assuming the tranny has a plug.

There is no drain plug on this one, but the test ports are real easy to get to.

Unfortunately, I just discovered the test ports are too small for the sending unit that came with the guage. It looks to be 1/4" port and the guage came with a 3/8" fitting. I'm checking to see if there is a smaller sending unit available. Otherwise I need to find a different location for it.
