Issue Before Shifting
Hey DF members,
I'm new to the forum. I just picked up a 2008 Ram 1500 QC a little over a month ago. So far, I love the truck. It's everything I expected. After driving it for a while now, I've come to know the sounds of the truck and around the time the auto transmission will switch gears. I've noticed that every once in a while (maybe once every time I drive the truck), the truck makes a sudden noise before shifting into the next gear. Around 50 mph the truck seems to give a bit more gas without me pushing the throttle. As if the revs have increased for a random reason. It happens for a split second then acts as normal. This doesn't happen every time I accelerate from a stop. It just happens every so often. For a little background on the truck, it has the 4.7 flex fuel engine with 37,000 miles on it. It has an aftermarket exhaust. From looking at pictures, it appears to be a Flowmaster exhaust. I'm running 87 octane gas in the truck currently.
I'm wondering what this issue could be. Is it the gas I'm using? Is it a tranny issue? Could it be something simple like spark plugs? Any ideas would be great. I tried searching the forum before posting this, and I've also read countless threads to see if I stumbled across the same issue. I've finally just decided to post this thread in search of some answers. I appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Sounds like maybe the torque converter is unlocking before shifting into 5th. Really hard to say from here. Could be an exhaust hanger or maybe a transmission mount. Sorry, I can't be of much help.
Bump. Any other ideas for me, anyone? I'm just trying to gather some ideas as to what this could be. I'm not getting any codes or anything thrown for this, I'm just curious as to what it could be. If I can figure it out, I'll fix it myself if possible. If not, I'll worry about it in the future if it isn't going to progressively get worse and cause damage.
