Default Who tows a fifth wheel??

Currently I have a 08 ram 1500 with the hemi and 3.92 gears quad cab 4x4.. I am wanting to upgrade to a fifth wheel but unsure of what weight to stay in to pull it. I don't go far with it the most I go is about 60 miles.. I have looked up to a 28ft and the weight ranges from 5,700-6,800 dry weight... Iv owned many pop ups/travel trailers and ready to upgrade. So how many people tow a fifth wheel on here? How much does yours weight?

FYI 90% of 5ths will exceed your safe carrying capacity for your 1500 bed. IMHO you are better off looking into similar sized travel trailers with a weight distributing hitch.

I own a 3500 now, but I (until May of this year) had a 1500 Ram and found it very limiting in my ability to select the RV I wanted, and to tow what I was allowed without it drinking me out of house and home... hence the move to the 3500 w/ CTD.

Just my 2c.

I tow a 7600 pound gvwr 5th with a max pin weight of about 1100 pounds, I have 3.55's and the 5.7liter and Firestone airbags. I don't like to tow much with it.

I tow a small Fith wheel, 19' long, loaded I only have about 4000 lbs to pull, with a 2003, Quad cab, 2 by, with the 5.7 Hemi and I found it pulls really well. It is much better than pulling my 24' toon. My mileage with the camper is around 9-10, with the toon 6-7. I dont' pull the toon a whole lot of distance. 150 miles 1 way 2 times a year, 15 miles 1 way the rest of the time.

Its payload that you have to watch out for in the 1500. If you just have two people in the truck then it possible to find a 5th wheel with about 1000lb pin weight that will not overload the truck. I have the 2500 QC and I am at my limit with about a 1500lb hitch and the family in the truck.

You have to keep in mind too that your 1/2 ton, is refering to total payload, including fuel/spare tire/etc. Its not atypical to find your "carying capacity" to be less than 600lbs in a lot of cases.
