Default Front Wheel Bearing (Passenger side)

Good post in the "how to" section; I've tried to change my front passenger side wheel bearing and didn't have any problems until I started to remove the axle from the transfer case.....

Anyone got any tips for getting the axle off....

Steps I followed;
Truck is on a lift and I have air tools
Removed all the hardware for the brakes and caliper
Removed the rotor
Removed the hub nut
Axle is loose in the rotor
Used a pry bar to pop the axle from the transfer case

This is where my I ran into a problem......

Thanks
dfs

I recently did the cv axles on my 02 1500 and the passenger side was rusted in badly. I got a buddy of mine to pull and rotate the axle while I beat on the back side of the axle with a hammer and bar till it finally can out. Be sure to replace the circle close that hold the axle in afterwards have to purchase from the dealership.

CAK1 and outcast my axle is not stuck in the hub...... I think I'm confusing you guys.... after you undue the hub nut I tapped the axle with a hammer, it's loose

my problem is when I try and slip the axle off the spindle coming from what I believe is the transfer case.... take a look at the video I've included.... starting at approx the 4:30 time in the video the guy removes the axle..... when I try to push the axle off the spindle like he does between 4:30 and 4:40 mine will not come off.... must be something he's doing that I either didn't do or a step is missing..... I have no more room to slide the axle off the spindle.....

Any suggestions.....

i get wat ur sayin but if ur bearing was like mine there isnt anuff room to swing a hammer cause it was seazed up so bad it is easiear to leave the cv shaft hooked to the front diff and take ur ball joint nuts and tie rod nut off and pull the whole spindle off and set it up on blocks and u can get a good swing with a hammer on the bolts to pop the bearing out

That is exactly where mine was rusted up. The cv should slide off the shaft coming from the front diff. If it is rusted on to badly the shaft comes loose from inside the diff. I have had to take the whole shaft assembly out before.you will have to remove the spindle assembly before you can get it out.if you remove the spindle assembly you will not need to remove the cv from the front diff anyway.check out the section on replacing upper and lower ball joints to get an idea on removing the spindle assembly.

Also if you're not servicing the brakes at this time you don't need to remove the caliper from the caliper carrier (bracket). Just remove the caliper and carrier as a unit. Although when you're replacing the bearing assy it's a great time to service the brakes and rotor if worn.

A couple months back I did my wheel bearings and wrote a thread about it. I didn't remove the CV axle, and I left the entire steering knuckle attached. You can do a search for my thread for the pics, but basically since I had a 2 jaw puller I used it to gently push the axle inwards a bit and unbolted the wheel bearing. It's a tight fit that way but I got it done (I tried to remove the axle just like that 1aauto vid and I couldn't get it either). The top bolt is the easiest to get, then turn the steering wheel half way to one side to get the second bolt, and turn the other way to get the last bolt.

Got it off on Saturday afternoon had to take the whole axle off.... pretty much did what you guys did.... bottom ball joint was pretty hard to get off..... once I got it off and was able to put the big hammer on the back side it came right off... only about 10 or so knocks with the mini sledge...... already had the spacer for the back... thanks for the tips....
