Default Rear Differential gasket source?

06' 1500 4x4 5.7. 12 bolt rear end. Changed the rear Differential fluid last week and re-sealed it with grey Permatex, i was annoyed as hell when i found drips in my driveway. So pulled the cover off AGAIN being careful to save the only week old gear oil i had just put it. Once again (just like the first time), i scraped all the RTV off with a razor blade, then used a Scotchbrite pad, then wiped it clean with brake claner to make sure there was no trace of oil. Used even more RTV then i did the first time and a day later, more drips. So i am done using RTV for this.

I went to the dealer who claims no gasket exists for my truck. A google search online turns up Fel Pro making them as well as some other small companies. I went to Advanced Auto Parts today to see if they stock them and was told "No gasket exists for that differential". Despite the fact i pointed out Fel Pro makes one, the guy chose to stick with his opinion that they don't.

Called Pep Boys, they find the Fel Pro part number in their system just fine, but said it would take 5-7 days to get in.

Does anybody know of any chains that stock these gaskets or a reputable online source that actually stocks them? Want to get this issue fixed sooner then later.

Lastly, on an 06' 1500 Ram, if i am handed a 12 bolt gasket that claims to fit my truck, is their any other 12 bolt rear ends, such as on a 2500 series that while it has 12 bolts, is a different shape? I will obviously hold the gasket over the cover before i pull it off to make sure it fits, but i don't want to drive all the way home and realize i have the wrong 12 bolt gasket.

Rockauto.com carries the gaskets. Couple bucks. I've never seen them stocked anywhere locally.

Do you have napa auto parts locally? They are stocked at my local one apparently. I'm actually going to be changing my diff fluids this weekend, so your problems with the leaks made me wonder the same thing.

You could just pull the cover clean it ----again--and make one using garlock gasket material, then silicone it or form-a-gasket (non-hardening) it, or hondabond--works great and comes off easy, but also seals great--just kinda expensive $15/tube

Strange-----the 10.5's have a factory reuseable gasket on them

I've never used a gasket and never had a leak, but the dealer doesn't know their heads from a hole in the ground. They are out there, I know someone who won't use RTV and bought one at Moe's Performance about two years ago...

Never used a gasket on my rear diff or trans pan either and never a leak. sure you were torquing it down to much because that will make it leak

My Motive master kit came with a gasket but i didnt use

Same as Weed and Hammer. I just use "The Right Stuff" 1 minute gasket maker and haven't had a problem yet.

YEP! bit more expensive than a tube but 1 minute to fill fluids is saweet!

i have used grey many times and never had issues.

one trick you can do with some RTV type sealants is to finger tighten the cover down then set for an hour. come back and properly torque. also wait about 1 more hour atleast before filling fluids back in

Default diff gasket

In lieu of a gasket, go to a Ford Dealer and get their black gasket maker, it will work.

VW dealers has a sealant for their oil pans for about $20 a tube but it will seal anything.

I got my rear diff gasket at AutoZone, they had them in stock. But when I did my front I ordered it from RockAuto since none of my local stores stocked them.
