Default Trans problem

My trans is acting all kinds of weird, jerking and shuddering, but if I turn the overdrive off it's fine. I originally got P0734 gear ratio error in 4th. I reset it, and as long as I don't leave O/D on it's fine. My search results seem to be split down the middle between it being the output speed sensor (wasn't that, tried it already) and grenade waiting to happen. I just don't get why the rest of the trans seems to function completely normal but O/D is f*cked. Figures it's right before I leave for another 2 months. Any ideas/opinions?

I would suspect that the OD clutches are shot so it only slips in OD and throws the code.

Well...I tried changing speed sensor and filters/fluid and nothing. So I got another trans. Going in with are the Circle D HP II and 1 ton cooler. Once it's quick learned I think it will be lotsa fun to drive again.

The cooler

Out with the old

In with the new

Hopefully tomorrow will be a nice enough day that I can finish. One thing I noticed, this is a heavy damn transmission. I'm used to 904's/727's and the occasional TH350/400, and I don't think any of them were as heavy as this one.

Based on how much old ATF is on top near that vent, i would suggest adding a longer hose and running that vent up to the top of the engine compartment like the front Diff vent hose is.

I really like the larger Trans cooler. Did it bolt right up? or did you have to drill holes and/or fabricate brackets?

Too bad I don't have a front diff. The cooler is a bolt up, but it helps to have the right bolts/inserts for the lower left and upper right. I grabbed some from a Ran I found in the junkyard. I have to get another bolt for the insert on the upper right. Even so, with 3 spots holding it down it doesn't really move. But I know it's missing and it will bug me until I fix it.

One last question on that cooler. Does it attach to the stock 1500 series transmission lines? Or does the cooler require a completely different set of lines, such as those from a 3500 series Ram?

It seems like such a simple and effective upgrade, not sure why more people don't do it.

It connects to the lines in the same exact place, like it was designed to be an option that was never offered. More people probably don't do it because they cost about $200 and you have to have the special tool to separate the lines properly (less than $10 at Harbor Freight).

Success (just gotta get it flashed)! No leaks, no muss, no fuss.
