Default Techron a miracle cure??

Never used anything as a fuel additive other then Marvel Mystery oil every other month and at almost 100k miles on my 06' 5.7 i decided to add Techron to the fuel since after spending a few weeks searching the net high and low to find any negative comments about the product, i have found nothing. The worst i have heard it will do is nothing at all. But no reports of damage or O2 sensor issues or anything like that.

So on friday, i bought two bottles of the 12 gallon treatment and dumped them in and filled my tank with the usual 89 octane at the same gas station i awalsy use. Expecting to notice no difference at all, within 10 minutes of getting on the highway; my tachometer, which went all the way around the stop pin and stayed there for the last two months came back to life. And it has remained working since. My truck also has a noticeable increase in power. I am finding myself letting off the gas a lot more often now because i am at the speed i want to be much sooner.

Since putting the additive in, i have not even used half a tank of fuel yet. The improvement is amazing. I am sold on this product. The first additive i have ever used that made a noticeable difference immediatley.

Anybody else ever tried it?

I have used Techron for years, every 3000 miles like clockwork. I have NEVER noticed a difference with it BUT figure that's because I regularly use it so I have no point of reference. If it made that much difference in your truck (and I've never heard of it before from anyone that wasn't wearing a Chevron shirt), then your fuel system must have been terrible AND if it made that much difference then your fuel filter is probably now all kinds of sh*tted up and should be changed.

I dunno if I'm gonna continue to use Techron, I've started using Star Tron in ALL my fuel at EVERY fill-up and have noticed a solid 2 MPG gain (closer to 3 in my Jeep). Unlike Techron/MMO/Seafoam type products which are occasional use, Star Tron is used in every tank.

I started using it in my outboard and lawn equipment on the advice of a buddy who owns a landscaping business to stop having to replace primer bulbs/fuel lines and to not need to re-build carbs every spring.

It negates the Ethanol in the gas as well as cleans and is a fuel stabilizer.

I dunno if I need the Techron any more since starting to use this product...

Any thoughts on the Lucas fuel additive? I've been putting in a bottle at every oil change. Never really notice any difference, but I keep the vehicles well-maintained.

Never heard of Star Tron before, but I just checked out their website. All we have is E10 fuel, and I hate it. I need to see if I can't get my hands on some of this stuff and give it a try.

I don't know if it's a miracle or not and can't imagine how it would cure a tach issue but it sounds interesting. Until recently, the only auto parts store my small town has was Advance Auto. My neighbor is the commercial business manager there and I have gotten to know the guys that work in there pretty well. They sell multiple brands of crap that are supposed to do what Techron claims and several are cheaper, but they have always pushed me on the Techron.

A couple of years ago, I bought my daughter a 2005 Mazda RX-8. Sweet ride but that rotary engine really likes ethanol free premium gas. Not always easy to find around here. For example, we have 1 station in a 20 mile radius that sells it and they are often out of it. The car was a PITA as far as throwing codes and they were always related to the fuel/exhaust and always seemed to come when it had been a while since we were able to fill up with the "good stuff". I always kept a bottle of Techron handy because it seemed to be the snake oil that would cure the car, at least for a little while. I sold the pretty little pain in my butt (the car, not my daughter, LOL) last month and bought her something with a piston engine in it and doesn't need to drink "champagne" to run decent.

Check your marine (boat) shops. It's made by Starbrite who has been a reputable marine fluids/additive company for years.

I buy it in two forms, one is an 8 oz. bottle that treats 48 gallons of fuel for about $6, I get it in this way for my yard/generator/ATV/etc. This is sold at my local Tractor Supply and Lowes, in the yard equipment areas. I use this bottle because it's easier to measure into the smaller gas cans I fill up for this use.

I also buy the same product but in a super concentrate 8 oz. bottle that treats 128 gallons of fuel for about $8 in the marine section at WalMart. Obviously it's more economical to purchase this one for automotive use.

You should see a difference by the end of the third tank of gas, at least I did. Not only has my fuel economy increased but my idle got noticeably smoother. Both of my vehicles run about the same and get about the same fuel economy as when I could get non-ethanol gas here. So I'm convinced that ethanol is not our friend...

Hammer, I was at Home Depot the other week, when I first saw your post about this StarTron product, they had a sale for $2 a bottle and I grabbed the last 4. It seems to be a good product, truck idles a bit smoother and I have felt an increase in power. I like it a lot and I also ran some in the gas for the small engine equipment in the garage, I'm sure they will start much easier come spring time.

Yeah I think just the fact it negates the ethanol is worth the price of admission alone. Plus it cleans the system and is a two-year stabilizer. There is no doubt about the gas mileage increase, I go basically all the same places using the same routes (yeah, I'm boring) and the idle on both of my vehicles is smoother without a doubt.

I was just up to the farm for the first time since July and sadly didn't even put the key in my ATV on that trip, so it basically sat in the barn untouched since I was up there last February. Battery - stone dead and wouldn't take a charge. Replaced it and couldn't get it started. Had to basically clean the whole fuel system out right down to injectors, clean the plug, etc. Once I got it going and emptied the gas out of the tank - I poured fresh gas in and put Star Tron in it and rode the hell out of it for two weeks. Also bought a 1.5A battery tender, so I should have a working ATV when I can get up there again.

BTW, I'm thinking StarBrite should send me a commission check, between forums and word of mouth I bet 50 guys are now running the stuff already who had never heard of it before...
