Default Newbie 07 545RFE Trans filter and fluid change question.

Just bought 07 1500 4.7 with 101,000 on it "545RFE" and changed the filters and it took 7 quarts fluid last week. Today pulled the pan back off trans warm and took 8 quarts. Figure that should be at least 75% of old fluid out. After looking at many reviews and inspecting the seal the flat filter goes in "did not change seal" and trans shifts fine. Question is, would you be able to tell if seal is sucking air or loss of line pressure? I may be being over cautious but don't want to burn clutch packs up. Had bad experience with 4L60E Chevy trans in 95 Camaro Z28 which was electronic and ate clutch packs up. Thanks for any help..

Thanks lxman1.. I figured it was but I didn't want to assume on this after seeing the rebuild price and horror stories of the seal..

To the OP.....If your so concerned about tearing up this tranny and this seals operation, why did'nt you change it out when you did the filters?
It's literally a 2 minute job to do and is relatively easy.

abarmby Like I said had read several post where a few mechanics recommended leaving the seal in and some who recommend changing it. Even if I had changed the seal would have asked the same questions. I have worked on automobiles for the last 28 years. I am not familiar with the 545RFE and the seal that was in was a tight fit on the new filter. I have read post where people have had the filter neck slide down out of the seal. How that happened have no clue with the design.

Yeah.....I can't understand either, how the large flat filter could slide out of the seal with it's design and the bolt that secures the filter in place. Which btw looks soooo very easy to strip threads on.
One of the symptoms I've read about on these transmissions with regards to a poorly fitting/sealing filter, is stalling at stop lights would you believe.
That seems to be the most common symptom of a poor seal.
If your not getting that or strange shifting, I'd call it good.
