Warped Rotor poll

RE: Warped Rotor poll
"Warped rotors" is a common dealer response to a variety of brake problems. Seldom are the rotors actually warped, but instead have extremely hard and softer spots from uneven heating due to a variety of problems with pads, break-in, etc. Turning the rotors seldom works for long because the differences in metal are still there.
All the best.

RE: Warped Rotor poll
So really the only true cure is to go aftermarket on this problem correct? Taking it back to the dealer and having them replace them under warranty is nice but in another 20k plus more miles your in the same boat. Anyone have aftermarket rotors and pads on for more than 20k miles, how are they holding up???

RE: Warped Rotor poll
You could extend the years even farther back on this, not to mention going to nearly every Chrysler vehicle available. A number of years ago ('90 '91, somewhere in there) Chrysler switched their rotor material spec to a softer metal. They did this because the new material had less of a tendency to squeak. Consequently the material warps, common problem for lots of Chryslers. $0.02

Is there a problem with the rotors on Ram trucks?
I only have 2400 on my 2005 daytona so I'm wondering if this is something to be concerned with or just a random thing.

Anthony in VT:
I own a 2000 Silverado 1500/4WD 4.8 V8. I have a rear brake problem at 31,000 miles the dealer replaced the rear pads and rotors now at 50,000 miles I have rear warped rotors I called the dealer they told me it would cost about $1000. Rotors should never warp.
Scott in Brookfield, VT:
I just spent $963.85 to get brake rotors and pads replaced on a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup truck with only 33,519 miles on the vehicle.
Weaknesses:
I have always had minor problems on these midsized GM cars with warped rotors -- causes pulsations when braking.

Have an '03 4x4, never tow, at 26,ooo had 'warped rotors' which were resurfaced. Again at 33,000 were again warped and the dealer replaced them this time . Dealer suggested it was due to my driving and they would not replace or fix them again (on warranty). Am I the only guy with this problem? Otherwise like the truck but want to find a good mechanic outside the Ford dealer because that comment pissed me off.

My '02 4x4 V-10 also had warped rotors at 27k. I lived with it until the next service ;last week at 30k. The dealer machined all 4 rotors and said the pads were fine. I questioned the practice of machining the rotors and not at least scuffing up the existing pads to break the glaze of the surface. The dealer said not necessary (I know better).
