Default EGR Valve On 2007 1500 5.7 Hemi

Has anyone had to swap out the EGR Valve yet? I have about 93K miles on it. The shop that I use for diagnostic work said that all things are leading to the EGR Valve. The code I got was also an emissions code but I have an cheapo scanner so I always get confirmation for a reputable shop.

When I went to buy the EGR valve, the guy at the parts store told me that the 5.7 Hemi is also known for getting some sort of build up on the throttle body that would cause it to run kind of sluggish and would also give the emissions code.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks Very Much and Happy New Year!!

Kudos to the parts counter guy! He may actually know something! The TB definitely gets crud build-up on the back side of the butterfly valve. I don't recall anyone mentioning a code from this, but I guess it's possible. Cleaning the TB can certainly improve the throttle response, as can a Sea Foam treatment. I believe some folks clean the EGR valve, like we clean the PCV valve.

With 93K on the truck, you should be getting due for a plug change. It's time for the third set to go in.

My truck is an 07 Hemi Quad 4X4 SLT. Last February, with only 20K some miles, I had a stall out when entering an expressway on ramp. A short time later I did get a CEL which turned out to be P1404, with all explanations pointing to EGR valve failure/problem. I had the EGR replaced and all has been well (knock on wood).

When you open the hood and are looking at the engine, it's on the left side closest to you. There is a tube going to it and are 2 bolts that hold it on.

Right MDT, follow that tube forward, it connects to the EGR. Bolts are either 8 or 10mm. It's a reach to get at but really not difficult.
