Default 2005 5.7L no oil pressure when cold

The weirdest thing happens when its cold out. I start up my truck and I get no oil pressure on the gauge. The gauge moves slightly when I turn the truck on, but doesn't register anything. I will then immediately shut it off and start it back up and I have oil pressure now. The dealer is scratching their heads about this. Has anyone else had this issue? Its a 2005 5.7L 1500. Thanks, Mike.

The 4.7 is notorious for sludge clogging the pump screen, but you almost never hear of it on the Hemi, plus it usually takes heat to get it to flow better. If yours just takes a re-start to get pressure then that wouldn't be the issue. I'd guess a flaky pump or an electrical issue either with the pump or possibly the gauge itself...

dont know why the dealer is dealer is scratching their heads.

this is a common issue.

its your Oil Pressure Switch. about $10 bucks online and 15 min. install.

its located next to your oil filter.

Sending unit, I had this problem allll the time, even when it was above like 50 degrees. Replace the sending unit (which was a PITA for me, though some fellas say its easy) and never had a problem since

I agree with the Oil pressure sending unit going bad. I would change it out(easy).

If you still have the issue, do an oil change with a new oil filter. Oil filters can sometimes do the same thing(Fram)

If you still have issue's, I would pour 1/2can of seafoam in the engine and run it for one hot cycle and then do another oil change.

If those options don't work I would chalk it up as electronics...my truck occasionally acts funny when its super cold...instrument cluster wouldn't work right..no mph....tha needle would stay at zero...dealer said 600 bucks to fix...lol kiss my ###...happened one time and its been 2yrs ago and! hasnt done it since..it hasn't been as cold..it was around 20tommorow degrees when it happened..Dakota used to do it too...but that was more often prolly rear wheel speed sensor..
