rearend carrier removal
lol.. In order to remove the carrier...
1)Remove both rear tires
2)Remove both rear calipers
3)Remove both rear rotors and both dust shields
4)Drain the differential fluid by pulling off the cover
5)Remove small bolt on carrier housing
6)Remove both c-clips inside the carrier that hold the axles in place. It's best to push inwards on the axles so there is no bind when pulling the clips off. Either a screwdriver can be used to push them off or a magnet can be used. I never had luck using a magnet.
7)Once the clips are off, you can now slide the axles out of the axle housing. Be careful not to mark up the bearings or seals pulling them out.
8)Mark the carrier bearing covers as yo'll want to install them on the same side and same direction.
9)Unbolt the carrier bearing covers.
10)Inside the axles, you need a special wrench called a SpannerTool that loosens up the pre-load on the carrier. This allows the carier to basically fall out of the housing. If you don't loosen them up the carrier will be very tight to come out. I've done it but it's not easy and you risk damaging things.
Figure about 6 hours to pull apart and put back together. More if you never done it before.
