Hemi hat removal...
Does anybody know what the heat absorbancy is like with silicone? You could build an entire intake out of 3" silicon from www.siliconintakes.com.
Would be nice to have a totally flexible intake system though. You would need the heavy duty metal reinfoced hose like marine Exhaust hose or pump suction hose. But neither is very flexible. You will not be able to make tight bends.
Before i attempt it, has anybody ever simply removed the Hemi Hat and replaced it with PVC pipe but kept the stock airbox? I don't want a Cone filter as the stock air box is much more effective at keeping hot air out of the induction system and i don't want to use K&N style filters. I prefer Paper filters. Cheaper and much better at filtering dust and dirt.
I want to ditch the Hemi Hat because i want better access to my engine and i want to remove the restrictions it causes.

Cool, thanks. I figured it sould be done, it's just kind of a weird angle. Airaid makes exactly what i want, it's a tube that goes from the TB to the stock airbox but it has the proper fittings for the IAT sensor and looks pretty nice. Simple black plastic. The issue is the price, $109.00 every place i checked. Even Ebay. Could not find it anywhere for even a dollar less.
I think my plan will be to buy that tube and install that to the stock Airbox. Then where the stock snorkel is on the airbox, cut that off and cut a larger hole to take either a 3" or (if it fits) a 4" 45 degree PVC pipe fitting in the same location to draw air from the fender area. That should give me plenty of air flow and the ability to use a stock paper filter or K&N. No worries of sucking in water coming into the engine compartment like can happen with an exposed cone filter or the hot air.
When i do this project, i am also going to remove and clean my TB and replace the gasket, install a new PCV valve and install a ground wire to the throttle body. Ill take lots of pictures too.

It's the intake air temp sensor. And i would not suggest driving your vehicle untill you install it in the new intake tube. You will likley throw a code and have horrible gas mileage at a minimum. Why would you have a delay in re-installing it?
Use a dipstick tube grommet for a GM Part#65113 found in the Help section of most auto parts stores.Drill the hole just slightly smaller than 3/4 inch, roughly 18mm or .71" pinch and insert. The rubber O-ring on the IAT sensor fits tightly and seals well and it costs bout $5.
