Hemi hat removal...
Someone mentioned removing theirs in another post.
What are the pros and cons of doing this?
Also what are the appropriate steps to remove and replace with??
Thanks

Pro - Smoother airflow from filter to intake
Pro - You may gain a horse power or 2 at wide open throttle
Pro - its gives a bit easier access to spark plugs (since to change plugs you have to take the hemi hat off anyways).
cons - increased intake noise
Most people replace it when they purchase a cold air intake system. I looked at my hemi hat, and it's not that bad. It had a curved air path, with some smaller holes off to the sides to dampen noise (acting like a muffler).
Its fairly easy to remove, a few bolts, the air pipe clamps and hoses. You can replace it with tubes from ebay, plumbing pvc pipe or purchased cold air intake kits. When you replace it, you need to relocate the inlet air temperature sensor into the new pipe.
If you search for cold air intake on here, you can see some of what people have done. Especially if you select the DIY posts.
I don't think there is much for Pro/Cons that really says do it or not. If it can be done cheaply, it makes a nice mod. If you do a good job of it, it looks nicer under the hood. Some guys have really dressed them up and it looks great. Performance wise, unless you run at full throttle the gains are minimal by itself, and only a few horse power more with the cold air intake.

Took mine off so long ago I forgot what it looked like. Get rid of it and get a GOOD cold air intake. Dont get anything made of metal. I have plastic welded some together and they work great but do stay away from metals ones.
Don't forget to the OP....if you fit an aftermarket CAI, there are many post's of people hydro locking and destroying engines when fording water holes and puddle jumping etc.
Just bear that in mind when you "play" and you should be OK.

Hey Weed, why should we stay away from metal?
