Default Idle Issue/Other questions

I have a 2007 Ram 1500 4.7L and it has a rough idle. RPM's stay steady but when sitting at a light or in park the truck shakes. If I let the brake out a little to roll forward at a light, it starts to jerk/shake forward because of the idle. Then about a month ago it every once in awhile will crank for a good 5 seconds before it turns over. The truck has 77k miles on it. I bought it about 5 months ago and have taken it in to the dealer and they keep telling me nothing is wrong, but there is. I cleaned the throttle body and ran a fuel system cleaning. I can not figure out what it is.
Also, I am thinking about doing the 2.5" level kit on the front. What is the best kind? I am a machinist so i might just make them myself if i can find the specs on them somewhere.
Last thing, is it normal on these trucks for the tranny to shift randomly whenever it desires? I'll be accelerating from a light at normal acceleration and it will at about 30mph shift into higher gear causing me to lose all power. Then, I press the gas harder causing it to downshift and I get accelerating better. Is that just normal for these trucks?

Unless you have access to stock and a lathe, might be better just buying a set already made and ready to go. Unless you are like me and just like to do your own chit just to do it...

Pick up a Sonnax trans line booster wire for your trans and see if that helps your trans shifting.

Lastly, the idle.... does it still do it with the AC on?

I actually work for a Machining/Fabrication company. I have access to/run a 5 axis CNC, Fadal CNC, CNC Mill and a Lathe.

As far as the transmission, where do I find that booster wire? But is it normal for the trans on this truck to shift weird, or is something just wrong with mine?

The idle is a little worse when A/C is on. My friend suggested maybe bad fuel filter. I don't know why i did not think of that. But the long cranking doesn't happen very often. Like I said the RPM's hold steady at roughly 700. You can feel a rough idle in it, and if you look at the engine you can clearly see it shaking. If i am at a light and i want to roll forward a little bit and i let the break out very slightly to do so, i get a rocking/shaking/jerking forward feel. It goes right along with the rough idle. Other than fuel filter, I am going to Ohm test injectors, check spark plugs, and then just check all vacuum lines. Any ideas on what it could be?

You can and should download the service manual for your truck from the link in my sig. I highly doubt it is the fuel filter. Not saying it canty be that but Ive just never seen one go bad unless someone dumped something in your tank.

How have you never seen a fuel filter need to be replaced? That is a normal maintanance that you should do on vehicles. I'll download the owners manual and see what I can find.

I have an 07 Ram 1500 4.7 with 53k that I've owned since December. I have the identical rough idle issue. The RPM's never move but yet it in park or fully stopped it feels like a cylinder is missing, but no codes. When you take you ease your foot off the brake to roll forward at a stop light the whole truck shakes and jerks like crazy. I've tried new plugs, TB cleaning, and seafoam to no avail. I haven't had much time to chase after it lately but it drives me nuts! I'm going to try and schedule the dealer for the TSB in the next few weeks and will let you know if it changes anything.
What is your gas mileage like? I averaging 8.3-9.1 mpg city driving and wonder if it is related? Any new ideas or updates?

I have same problem in my 06. I will be tackling the EGR valve on my next day off. Anybody having trouble finding replacement pcv valves? Stores keep giving me the wrong ones.

My gas mileage is fine. ****ty, but fine. lol. I'm getting around 14mpg city. But ya the idle is very annoying. I haven't had time to look into it much due to being in the middle of moving. Let me know what the dealer says. I already had it there and they said everything was fine with mine. But i know it's not.
