Default 06 hemi vs 07 hemi

Hello all,

I just purchased a low mile 5.7 hemi engine with the mds to swap out in my 06 ram 1500. I was just curious if there is any difference between the 5.7 hemi in the 07 versus the 5.7 in the 06 as far as reliability, performance, etc...

Thanks,
Jimmy

Why are you going to swap the motors? 06 has mds, same as 07. Reliablility is the same as far as I know

Thanks for the replies. The original engine (the 06) died on me at just under 80k. I was fortunate enough to find an 07 engine with only 12k miles to replace it with for a fair price. I was just curious if there was any difference in the two that anyone was aware of. I had a lot of performance issues from day one with the original engine and am hoping that the 07 engine is going to be better than what was in it.

A dead Hemi at 80K.....unusual??
What happened?
As for your original question, I don't believe so. It's a straight swap as well.

No difference. Exactly the same engine from 2006-2008

It originally had a push rod come off due to excessive sludge build up around the valves. I was told that it was mainly because the type of oil that I was using from those 10 minute oil change places, plus not changing it as frequently as I should have. Basically poor and improper maintenance.

Now it has dropped a lifter and the oil pump is bad. The mechanic thinks that there's most likely not anything hurt in the engine and that the lifter along with the oil pick up screen is clogged due to the sludge. He priced replacing the lifters and oil pump for me, but also said that there was always the possibility that there could be other issues like a worn cam, etc... and suggested trying to find a low mile engine with a warranty, versus paying out all that money and there still be an uncertainty of something else being wrong.

I didn't want to take any chances so I found the engine with 12k miles and a warranty from an 07 so I figured that would be the best route to go. I'll also have the old engine that I can put up and have built later on in case I have any issues in the future.

Did the doner come out of a truck or a car? Theres a few differances between a car Hemi and a truck, but nothing major. I recall watching a swap on either "Trucks" or mabey "extreme 4x4" on spike. But dont quote me, all those shows run together in my mind.

It came from a truck. Same style as mine except it is an 07 instead of the 06.

The only difference in those year engines is between 1500's and 2500/3500's. 3/4 & 1 tons didn't get MDS.
