Not sure about the 6 cylinder, but I get that in my 4x4 QC HEMI.

I got a 2005 Reg Cab 2x4 3.7 AT - and exactly the same mpg... between 16-17 mpg, mostly highway at 70-80. Was hoping for better, too - probably true at 55 mph cruisin.... Thx, Tommy

Whoa! I get around 20.5 MPG on the HWY with the Hemi. I suppose that little engine is really working itself to pull that big truck.

Seems like the 6 cylinder is underpowered for the Ram. Also, I am not sure what mods are available for a 6 cylinder truck....seems like an upgrade to a V8 Ram may be cheaper and land more power and mileage. For example, will an exhaust on the V6 land as much gain and sound as moving to a V8, my guess is that it won't....but perhaps I am wrong.

I'll take 4 mufflers also, but I won't take the 6 cylinder...... to each their own, I guess, but engine modding a v6 on a big ole heavy truck seems counterproductive.

I would not buy a gibson system, at least if they told you that you WOULD see a 2+ MPG difference. Trust me - you won't. They are lying to you. I might have noticed a .5 mpg difference with the flowmaster, and I cannot imagine a more free flowing exhaust. There will be no 2 mpg difference. With an exhaust you will notice a better throttle response.

For those saying the engine is under powered, I say no way. I cruise at 70 MPH every day and my engine is right at 2000 RPMs. The truck is not quick, or fast, but after all it is a truck. I have hauled more than a ton of topsoil in the bed, and the truck handled it with ease. The biggest problem with your truck with respect to MPG is aerodynamics. That huge grill that inspired you to buy it, is actually the thing that catches the wind and dramatically drops the MPGs.

I average 17.5 mpg per tank and have done so for the 12,000 miles in which I owned it. I drive probably 75% highway 25% city. My Town and Country averages close to 10mpg better when I drive that same route (however, when I put my roof-top carrier on the T&C the MPG were amazingly similar!)

In sum, according to my experience your MPS are in line with what I’m getting; they don’t seem low to me. The engine does sound very nice with an exhaust mod. If you favor honest vendors avoid anyone who promises a 2+ MPG boost; if you only care about sound, then buy away – the changed exhaust does sound sweet!

I have a 2003 ram 4x4 1500 quad cab short bed with a 5.7 hemi, auto transmission and a 3.92 rear end. I can get up to 15 mpg hiway doing 70 mph, if I drive real gengerly.
