Default 03 Ram shifting problems

Hey guys I have a 03 Ram 1500 Hemi that will not shift out of first if its in drive. If i bump it down to 2nd it goes there just fine. Just started yesterday and no problems or signs of failure at all until it stopped working. It will just peg the tach and not shift now. Changed the transmission and rear end speed sensors as a trans shop advised but no change. Also i pulled the pcv valve and cleaned it, it was still free, but no luck.
Any advice or insight is appreciated!

The truck hasn't thrown any codes or lit the MIL? It sounds like the transmission went into safe or limp mode.

When mine did something similar to this (but not exactly the same) I got the MIL and the ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL (ETC) INDICATOR on. After checking here on the forum I cleaned the TB and it never came back.

However, the trans can go into limp mode for any number of things. Seems hard to believe you wouldn't have any codes.

Yes, there is a way to reset the codes but you really want to know what the codes are before you erase them.

Most auto parts places will read the codes for you if you do not have a reader. There is a way to get the codes by turning on the ignition a set number of times while facing west and hopping on one leg and rubbing your belly but I do not know the proper sequence. Somebody will post that sequence or you can search for it in the forum.

After you get the codes, post them here and you can get help. Then you can dump the codes.

I found out turning the key on and off 3 times will show you code and I got a p 0700. All i could see from that is transmission but nothing particular that it points to.

That code is a general transmission fault that could mean anything. If there is other troubleshooting information available in the vehicle you can only get to it by using a megadollar bus reader like the Dodge DRBIII.

Have you checked the fluid or changed out the fluid and filters lately?

Yea fluid is perfect, havnt changed in a while but due to instant driving perfect to not shifting out of first unless i manually put into second and that's it i wouldn't think its a fluid issue. Looking more and more like a shop issue ;(

If you do a search for p0700 you will find some other threads that outline what other guys have done. Maybe one of those might keep you from the shop. I wish I could be of more help. Maybe some of the other guys here will be able to get you farther. I hope you can avoid a big hitter.

Good luck
