how can i improve my mpg
2005 ram 1500 hemi
i average around 10 city and 14 highway
will a cold air intake improve my mpg?
will a super chip improve my mpg? if so which would be the best one to get?
will straight piping my ram improve my mpg?
when i tow my bobcat 873 with a total weight of 9300lbs including the trailer i only get 5.5-6 mpg on the highway.

do some searching as this comes up ALOT.
the best answer: all the basic stuff, tire pressure, tune up, cleaned and maintained everything. synthetic fluids. including trailer too. keep rpms low, drive slow.
cold air will provide the engine to breathe better but typically cuts on fuel, some do report a small mileage gain.
exhaust, again a small gain.
tuner: yes it is probably the best as far as a mod goes.
if a tonneau cover works for you then i have had good experiences saving fuel there.
i would personally buy a diesel if im going to do daily towing, its made for that type of abuse, and better mileage in those conditions.

There are alot of posts recently listing this.

Also 17" wheels are better than 20's. New spark plugs and every 30,000 after that. Possibly Efan
Also 9300lbs is too much weight for the 1/2 ton - Read this

They post mpg and yearly gas averages on the window stickers when you buy it. They also have the best towing and hauling of any truck in their class I believe. I love my hemi and happy with the mpg. You said yourself it pulls a 9300lb beast of a setup! lol.
A CAI, turner and exhaust helps. It all adds up to help with that. If pulling that load you could do gears and 17's. I myself have 24's and I pull about a 6,000lb or so setup and it pulls great and I average 11mpg through the mountains at a lower altitude. Everything plays a factor, elevation plays a factor in the way it pulls and hp specs. A low tire will hurt mpg, dirty filter too. There were some helpful tips but don't expect much above the stickers clearly stated mpg hwy/city numbers. Hemi's are powerhouses and weren't made for mpg.

I think 9300lb are impressive numbers for a hemi! I've pulled a 22ft trailer, winch, toolbox fully loaded, with my bodied 95 Serria ext. cab on 22's on a 3hr trip and it did great! The average person can't afford a big diesel but they still have to haul big loads.
I wasn't thinking about that. I also kept mine and it's in the glove box still lol.
As for that your looking at 15/19 on the 2wd hemi I think and 13/19 on the 4wd. Either way your within reason but could do a plug change and tune up, more so if not bought new by yourself. I have both exhaust and CAI and my mpg haven't changed but it sounds nasty and I don't care lol. The hemi is for a stout pulling powerhouse in a gas burner engine, no way made for good mileage. I have the hemi and bought a rice burner for mileage. Cars built for mileage and to sip gas and sound like a swarm of bee's, not for safety and pulling power.

I averaged about 18 mpg on the highway (though haven't had it on a long autobahn trip yet), and absolutely abysmal around the country roads with all the hills. I have plugs, oil and filter ready to go as soon as I can get to it. I'm planning on cleaning the throttle body and EGR while I'm under the hood. I'm hoping that will give me a little better performance, as I'm due for plugs and a good cleaning. E-fan will be coming this spring/summer once it warms up a bit.
Doing a little better than Chet on the autobahn...I am managing about 19...Just did a 2 1/2 hour trip yesterday and managed 19.2 mph with cruise control set to about 110 kmh (roughly about 65 mph...)
