Default Water goes in and pours right out.

2003 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7 V8 140,000 miles

Left family's house last night drove about 1/2 mi to the store and the truck was sitting for about 10 min idling. Noticed a very small surge of the rpm while idling and sounded like it was going to bog out a little. I also noticed that the heat wasnt working. Got up on the highway to go home and I started hearing kind of a pinging sound from the engine. Took the next exit and the truck died, wouldnt start back up. Smoke was coming from under the hood on the driverside like something had burned out. Too dark to see anything, had it towed home. This morning there wasnt any water in the radiator reservoir, poured water in and a couple seconds later all of the water poured out from underneath the truck towards the back of the block. I never noticed the temp gauge running hot or even a smell of overheating. No warning lights, nothing. Just boom thats all folks.
Any advice/suggestions appreciated
Thanks!

Well you could probably get under your truck with a flashlight and take a look. That's usually where people start.

I thought you had a long night drinking last night and had a hangover, then this morning you were replenishing with water and it was going out as fast as you were drinking it in....lmfao

Seriosuly though, freeze plug it could be. It could also be an intake gasket failure???

I had built an Olds 455 long ago. I took the heads to the shop to hve the standard valve job dont and heads shaved but also have them port matched and polished. They did the work and I brought them home and slapped them on. Buttoned everything all back up and dropped the engine in the 442 and put in the fluids and ...... just like you, I heard water going in and water coming out.

$700 in heads and they didnt even put the damn freeze plugs in them!

Unfortunately you have the 4.7 and it has overheated. Good luck, maybe ebay has a good price on a replacement as you may be chasing issues forever.
