Default axle tube rust

I was looking at buying a older dodge with some rust on the axle tube what would be the best way to take care of this cause the truck is a good deal and thats the only thing wrong well some other little rust here and there can you just sand it down and spray some rustoleum on it

Use Por 15. It's expensive but it works!

I used a really stuff wire brush to remove any loose rust. I suggest you wear a mask so you dont breathe it all in. Rustoleum makes a primer for heavily rusted metal. It converts the rust, then just paint over with with some epoxy based paint or something sufficiently durable. The under-body parts rust, its just the nature of it. I actually really wouldn't be too worried about.

If it were me, I would take a drill and a wire wheel to it and get it all done that way. Then use ospho or LPS-3 on it and paint it

Why would you buy a gallon? The 4oz can would almost be enough to do the axle. **** goes a long way!

A flap disc on an angle grinder works great for removing rust in a hurry. Why are you worried about rust on the axle? Just looks?
If that's the case, I'd check for rust around the rear fenders, what little rust you find looking it over is generally just the tip of the rustberg
