Death Wobble-Holy @#$%
This may be a little long.
Had my 03 Ram 4x4 into the mechanic I use, to check some slight steering trouble and steering noise. He phones me and says everything up front seems okay but the steering shock is leaking pretty bad and thinks it may be shot. Says he'll drive it into town and see if he can hear the noise I'm talking about. Phones me later and tells me on the way back in the truck starts shaking out of control.( Death Wobble) He pulls over, does a road side check but can't find anything loose. Gets it up on the hoist back at the shop, can't find anything.
So he calls the dealership and asks about the problem. They ask for the serial #. Turns out there was a recall for front end problems. They say the truck was in for the recall, but they don't know if anything was done. They could have determined the truck was fine and not done anything, or they might have replaced the defective parts. Seriously? In this day and age, no record of what was done. B.S They did tell him there was a kit, that sounds like it replaces pretty much all the steering components for $650.
Well the wobble had never happened before so I decide to take it and see what happens. I hit the highway and no sooner get up to speed, HOLY CRAP. You really have to experience it to know how bad it is. I slowed down, it stopped, and every time I got up to speed it started. Four times in total. Had to drive slow the rest of the way home
Tomorrow I'll call the dealership and see what they have to say. I think if they're saying there's no record of it being fixed, it wasn't. I'm really just livid over it now that I've experienced it. This isn't an inconvenience or annoyance. This is a major safety concern. Had it happened to someone with little driving experience there could have been a fatality. We'll see what transpires tomorrow. Stay tuned.

go to ebay search dodge steering stabilizer. i bought the custom diesel unit. just looked it up, 119.00, free shipping. The unit has worked great for me so far, its been on my truck for well over a year now.
I can buy that locally where I am. Can it be installed with the truck sitting on the ground? (looks like it)

Thank you for the replies. The SBS will be here on Monday. The next mystery would be, what set of the wobble. Everything looks good under there. The guy at BD diesel said it could be something pretty minor, suggested swapping tires front to back as it could be something as minor as a wheel ballance issue. Hopefully the SBS helps so I can at least drive the thing on the highway until we can figure out where the issue is.
