It was a different electric fan I had lying around that would fit, so I cut the plug off the factory wiring and extended the wiring to the fan in the front. whipped up a few brackets and conected up the wiring so it'd be a pusher not a puller.

I also was having the same issue with no AC at idle. The 1A you tube series was really beneficial but they replaced the entire motor, fan and shroud assembly, but for those of you wanting to save a little money I will give you my basic tutorial as well.
You Tube Link - part one and two

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAmF-RP1OJ8

When I went to find a new fan for my 03 Ram, Autozone and O'reilly both did not have the fan motor only, they wanted to sell me the shroud, the fan and the motor as a complete unit. Both were over $100 for the entire assembly.

I looked at putting new brushes in my old motor, but the motors are the type where you just can't remove a couple of screws to get to the insides, so I started looking at other options.

Here is what I found. First go to the 1AA YouTube video on how to remove the old shroud without removing the condensor. It will give you a step for step to get that shroud off the condensor without removing AC lines.

For those that don't need a step by step, you have to take out the condensor AND the radiator bolts that attach both assemblies to the frame. The radiator will tilt back enough for you to get to the 10MM bolts on the shroud which go into the condensor unit. You will have to free up the AC condensor lines at the front of the truck to be able to move that condensor up and down to work that shroud out of the motor. Oh and it helps to remove the battery and loosen the relay and fuse box and set it where the battery was (They go over this in the You Tube video).
There is not a ton of room on that side to work.

Once you get the shroud off the condensor (of course you unplugged the wiring harness from the fan motor first) you can pull that shoud, fan blade and motor all out of the truck. Take the fan off the old motor, it has a slipped on washer holding it onto the shaft and remove the three screws that are holding the motor to the shroud. You should be left with the shroud and the fan blade. Take that old motor and use it for a door stop or a paper weight.

O'Reilly has a fan motor #PM538 that is less than $30US. I actually think mine came in at $25 something but your prices might vary.
It is not a direct bolt on fan motor but with this tutorial you can make it work.

So once you have the new motor in your hand you will see that it does indeed have a collar like the OEM fan did. But it is not large enough to extend out to the OEM holes in the shroud. Do not despair, the motor comes with three new self tapping screws and you can indeed find three spots on the motor collar that will hit nice chunky parts of the shroud. You will need to use a screwdriver to get the new motor into the old shroud, it is a real tight fit which is a good thing! Use the screwdriver to gain a little room on the shroud and the new fan will slide right in and stop on the shroud with the color against the shroud. You do want to install the fan from the front side of the shroud. Use the three new self tapper screws, find the nice chunks of shroud and screw them into the shroud. Believe me, that fan is not going anywhere after you do that.

OK now you will need put the fan blade on the shaft. The new motor has a threaded end with a nut and a thick washer on it. Take the nut off but leave the thick washer on the shaft (this will give clearance for the fan to rotate without hitting the end of the motor). Put the fan blade on the motor just like it was on the original, just so you know when you first look, it appears to be backwards but the shroud actually wraps around that fanblade so it will work. Use a screwdriver jabbed in from the back of the motor to hold the motor from turning and tighten the bolt down on the fanblade. Give her a couple of turns just to make sure you got it nailed down right. Now you are ready to install the shroud back on the condensor. Put it back together just like you took it apart. It takes some wiggling to get it back together but it will indeed go back.

Now I will warn you here that the standard plug on the new motor is not OEM so the plug coming off the relay box will not fit. Do not despair, this too can be fixed easily. I took two 1/4" blade connectors, attached them to about a foot of wire each and connected them to the back of the motor (there is a positive terminal and a negative terminal, I would think that if you wired them backwards the fan would spin the wrong way so check for suction through the condensor once you get it all put back together. I put a piece of paper against the condensor and it sucked it right to it, if the paper blows away then switch your 1/4" blade connectors on the back of the motor to get that fan to PULL air through).

Then I took the original connector, cut the wires at the old connector and using some wire nuts made a new connection to my new leads. I wrapped all of that in electrical tape to make sure they did not go anywhere and were protected from the elements. I figured I have 150K on my truck now, if it works for another 50K I will be happy so I think the eletrical tape will hold till then. For those over achievers who do electrical for a living I am sure there are some other options out there you can use so have some fun!
Put the fuse and relay box back where it was, reinstall the battery and of course put the bolts back in the condensor and radiator units, also don't forget to reattach the condensor AC lines you loosened to get that unit out. Turn on the truck and see if the condensor fan starts running, if not turn on your AC and be amazed at how much $$ you save!

Have ran my unit about a thousand miles and with no problems I thought I would share it with you all! It sure is nice to set at a stop for a few minutes and not have to turn the AC off for fear of blowing up the system because it got too hot.

With Summer approaching, save some $$ for vacation instead of dropping good hard earned $$ on parts you don't need, like the fan and fan shroud.

Have a good one!

I found what I think is a direct replacement for the OEM fan motor, though it is more $ than what Preacher found it for.

See this thread for the numbers
https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2788299-post5.html

I ordered one of the direct OEM replacements and will update when I get it installed.

The motor came in and I installed it without any trouble or modifications. The motor was form, fit and functionally the same as the oem motor with one minor difference. The plug for the new motor was on a 2 wire pigtail instead of being part of the motor assembly like the oem. That did not make any difference for installation except that I had to secure the wire assembly with some zip ties.

The air works fine and is nice and cold. ...and there was much rejoicing.

Did you still have to remove the condenser fan/shroud assembly from the condenser to replace the motor?

Yes, the shroud has to come off of the condenser since the motor comes out of the front side of the shroud just like the oem motor.

Thanks. I'll be replacing the fan motor with the 4Seasons 35077 as soon as my new one arrives.
