Default no ac at idol 2003 hemi ram

hi all im new to dodgeforum.com

looking through forums i can tell there alot of very knowledgeable dodge fans here. i had 94 ram slt 4x4 318 ext cab sb and loved it. great truck but need a new one. i recently bought a 2003 slt hemi 4x4 QC sb with 3.55's and just love the 4 doors with a true short box and gobs of power.

but was wondering if any1 could help with a problem with new truck.
ac is not cold at idol. but is cold when moving. ac fan never comes on and compresser comes on every few seconds. has any1 had this problem with there truck?

my main ? was how do i get those connetors off the fan so i can put 12 volt to fan to c if its bad. and probe the connetor to c if fan is getting power.

thank u all in advance.
great site i hope to help where i can

Do a search on here for this problem.
There are many write up's about removing and replacing the AC condenser fan without purging the AC system.
This is a very common problem with these AC systems. The "classic" sign that the AC condenser fan is goosed is as you say, no cold air at idle.

As stated above, your condensor fan must work. They do burn out. As you begin moving, air goes through the fins and cools the condensor down which is why you have A/C moving and not at idle.

As far as getting the connector off? I'd have to look. It's either one of those with that red secure clip, or a simple squeeze and pull deal??

i got the plug apart and put 12 volt fan and all i got was a buzz for about a second then nothing. then i spun the fan and hooked it up to 12 volt and another buzz for a second and fan never moved. with truck on i probed the connector and it was working fine. so it looks like the fan is bad.

could any1 plz send a link to post about changing fan with/o undoing a/c line. i think some1 said u had to cut the fan shroud to give room for a/c line.

thanks

ill try to get pics up of work if i can

You normally pull back and slide to to the side that red clip and then squeeze and pull off the connector

yep i got clip off. i never thought about putting fan in front.

did u have to rig up the connector to get to fan on front of ac condenser.

im think im going to try to get new fan to motor side of condenser for the stock look.
it a new truck and i dont mind spending a lil time on her. (i dodnt mind the cuts in the shroud so much. if i dont have to have a/c line disconnected).

but thanks for the info. never thought about putting fan in front. if i cand get fan where i want it. that sounds like an easy option.
