Default Does it need to warm up first?

Recently when I start my truck and put it in reverse or drive, it doesn't move. It'll move when I put a bit of gas into it. Do I need to let it warm up a bit before I put it into gear? I checked the trasmission fluid level and it's not low, but it's getting there.

Once the truck is started then off. It's fine for the rest of the day. It's just usually a small delay when I start it first thing in the morning.

Sounds like the torque converter is leaking down. That's a classic sign. How many miles? When was the tranny last serviced?

Only has 104xxx I couldn't tell you when the transmissions been serviced. I bought the truck with 103xxx I can tell the trucks been maintained with all the paperwork it has, but has nothing about a transmission.

The truck runs good, strong, I've yet to feel any slipping.
It doesn't do this every morning, but this is the second time it's done this in about 2 weeks time. But after I start the truck up, it'll be good and shift fine after starting. Should I maybe start small and do a filter change / flush? I'd hate for it to be anything big. Because I'd have to drop the transmission?

If it was me I would start small with the flush and filter, I had a jeep that had a smiliar problem and after I did a flush and new filter it was like new it never had a problem shifting or going into gear again

I was googling the issue I had and people said to put it in Neutral and let it sit for a minute because fluid flows faster than in park.

Bad thing about used car lots. You buy it as it is haha. But it drives great, I don't mind doing small stuff. But, yeah I'll start with a fluid and filter change. I saw somebody said their is 2 filters for the 3rd gen? I'm new to the newer trucks. I had a 97 that only had 1 filter haha

You'll likely find two filters, a flat one and a spin-on. It's long overdue. Somewhere along that model year the service interval went from 30K to 60K. Whatever it is, it's time for a drop 'n' drain (easy to do, just messy). Be careful of some flushes.

Thanks fellas, I'll surely do a drop and drain. I just googled the filter on autozone and it's a flat filter with a tube at the top and a spin on filter at the bottom of it. Sound about right? I'll just buy it and it see how it comes off and put it back on the same way. I heard that ATF - 4 burns the trans? You hear a lot from google. I don't know what to believe! Haha.

My old 07 had that problem but only in really cold weather and never had a tranny problem. Haven't noticed it in the 05 but I'm watching for it. I'm planning a drop and drain in the next week or two.

While you are dropping the pan, you might want to pic up a drain bolt kit to add it in. It will save time later in the future.
