Dont imagine that is normal. Any ideas? New compressor or new fan? Thanks in advance. It be hot in this Louisiana heat
Are you talking about the fan cutting on and off or the compressor? Did you check the pressures before and after you put the can of freon in?

Lots of A/C questions here, check this out for some general guidlines

Same issue, fan never moved, fuze looks good. Chances are fan is junk.

Heh, find it weird that I read this thread when it started and all of a sudden I had the same issue that very same day. Careful, it's contagious!

Anyway, could hear/see the clutch engage and disengage every five seconds or so. Checked the relay and fuses - all were good. Traced the issue to the condenser fan - it never engaged and don't think it has for a while to be honest! Jumpered 12V to the fan to make sure and it did nothing...

Took out the condenser fan and disassembled the fan motor.... The commutator was extremely worn with less than half of its original width left and the fan brushes were worn down almost to the wire! Sheesh! Ordered a brand new fan assembly on eBay for $55.

If it weren't for this thread/forum, I would have spent a lot more time diagnosing the issue so thanks to all that responded with suggestions! Hope the OP has made headway on the original issue!!
