Default air condition blows hot when idle

Hello everyone. My air condition in my 04 ram blows hot air when truck is idle but blow cold when driving down road. I thought freon was low so I put in a can yesterday but it still does the same thing. I noticed when putting in the freon, that the fan on the compressor comes on, but only stays on appr five seconds and then shuts off for appr 5 seconds before it comes on again. Dont imagine that is normal. Any ideas? New compressor or new fan? Thanks in advance. It be hot in this Louisiana heat

Same problem. Vaccuum leak most likely. Is the fan fubar'ed?

Most threads on this same problem, say the fan is the culprit. Air flowing over ac rad while moving cools the air. Idling, no air flow, so it gets hot.

Yeah, ac condensor fan likely is not on so when you are driving you are forcing air through it but at idle the fan needs to pull air through and no fan working means no air pulled through means no cooling

The fan in mine definitely ain't working. I came to the conclusion about the vac leak as well since cruise control doesnt work, but it's obviously fan, too.. No fan, no a/c..is that how it should go, right? Regarding the fan, is it likely to be a bad fuse or do you just need to chuck the darn thing out and get a new one?
Funny thing with mine is, a/c was always on, just sort of weak. Then it went to working only while driving and now it's warm all the time.

I had the same problem in an '02 Ram.... turned out to be a bad fuse. Replaced it and the fan and AC went back to working like a champ.

There's a reason the fuse blew in the first place. It'll prob happen again if you didnt address the issue and only replaced the fuse. Hopefully no further damage happens than just the fuse blowing.

Clogged A/C condensor can cause a no A?C condition at idle even if the fan is working. Take a gardne hose to the condensor fins and see if that makes the A/C go cold.

What might be easier is to jump 12v to the fan to quickly test it
