Towing capacity cannot be changed. It is what it is.

I also have a 2006 Mega Cab 1500. As far as I know, It has the 2500 chassis and running gear. The springs, however are not 3/4 ton. If it is badged a 1500, it has 1/2 ton springs. I have seen Mega Cabs with the 2500 badging, and they do sit higher than mine. If you want to increase your capacity, being that you already have a 3/4 ton chassis, you should be able to replace the leafs and front coils to achieve your goal. However, that is just my opinion, and I certainly am not a professional. Good Luck.

Well, if you put more than about 12,000# behind it and wreck it, neither the police nor your insurance company will want to hear how you increased the towing capacity. Plus, the running gear also has its limits.

Yup, no matter what you do the truck legally is supposed to only tow somewhere around 8500lbs. You can haul a payload of almost 2000lbs (including passengers, gear, and hitch weights etc)
As comparison my 2500 mega cab hemi, with 4.10 gears can tow up to 11000lbs, but only has a payload of about 2600lbs (not much higher than yours). Your 1500 megacab falls in the heavy duty half ton category due to its 3/4 ton chassis, problem is its 1/2 ton rated gears, diffs, brakes, axles and suspension limit its total towing capacity.

Upgrades may make it safer, handle better and tow better. But lawmen go by the sticker on the door and what the book says.

Ive seen that the 1500MC has 5 springs and the 1500 has 4. so it really seems like theirs no difference between the 1500 and 2500 unless the 2500 uses 3inch wide springs and the 1500 uses 2.5in.

If you need to tow more...you should prolly be looking to put your money into a 2500/3500 with the Cummins. I prefer to drive my 1500 with the Hemi on a daily basis but if you need to tear a building down you can't beat that diesel grunt.
