Default Special tool to change shocks?

My Chilton's manual says I need a special tool to change the front shocks. IS that true and if so, what is it?

Thanks

First you need a shredder to use on the Chilton's manual. Is yours 4x4?

Not true. You can take the springs and shocks out without any special tools.

That's odd... a couple of wrenches for the bottom bolt and the top nut is all that was required on my truck. Maybe I should have read the manual... Maybe there was a way to have a cold beer sooner.

That's what I was thinking. The '08 4x2s aren't struts, are they?

You usually only need a spring compressor if your putting in a lift kit or leveling kit. I had to use one when I put my leveling kit in even though I have a solid axle.

You'll need a spring compressor to take the strut apart. In his truck, you dont need a spring compressor if you are putting in a leveling kit (spacers). But you'll need one if you're doing leveling struts.

Edit - I'm just assuming it's 4x4...I suppose I shouldn't assume
