If you compare the picture of the replacement I posted above with the original style you'll see you will not have to worry about "preventing" tearing with the new parts, since the design is entirely different at the offending place and eliminates the problem completely. You'll also see how much more complex the replacement part is and be able to guess why they avoided changing for so long.[:@] Can you say, "cheapo original?" Sure you can.

Just replace 'em and be done with it.
