Default Fuel Pump Died

Went to start my truck - it started and immediately stalled out. Did some looking around and figured I had no fuel pressure. Towed to dealer and fuel pump was burnt out. Wiring and connector at pump was also burnt. Had some kind of wicked short.

I was towing the day before and got down to about 1/4 tank. Another Dodge guy told me that if you get that low in the tank when towing (sagging in the rear) that the pump will be uncovered and can overheat. Anyone ever hear of this?

1500 4WD Hemi.

Anytime you get < 1/4 tank, you're risking fuel pump damage, whether you're towing or not. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt, got the t-shirt dirty. NEVER again. It's a rare event if any of our rides gets below 1/4 tank.

Ive always heard keep the pump covered with fuel protects the pump and thats makes since being liquid can absorb and dissipate heat but Ive never had the issue personally.
