Default programming new key

2006 ram, In my owners manual it gives a procedure for programming a new key if you already have at least two functional keys. Can anyone go over this with me because it does not seem to work.
I have one functioning key with remote, one functioning key without remote and one new one with remote that has been cut but not programmed.

Is it possible to reprogram a key that was previously from a different vehicle? This is the case with my key, I bought just the blank blade off of Ebay and had it cut and assembled it with the remote from a different vehicle???

Any chances of this working??

Thanks

The key without a remote is probably a "valet" key. You may only have one valid key. Are you trying to do a key or a fob?

The key without the remote must have a chip in it because the truck starts and runs normally, unlike the new one with remote, that starts and shuts off after a few seconds.

Does it take two keys with remotes to be able to program another?

What is fob?

Kyleen,

I am assuming you have a Sentry Key with a chip in it.

Are you saying you have a FOB (which contains the chip) that was already programmed to another vehicle? If so you cannot program it to another vehicle once it has been programmed once already. From the owners manual:

Replacement Keys

NOTE: Only keys that have been programmed to the
vehicle electronics can be used to start the vehicle. Once
a Sentry Key has been programmed to a vehicle, it cannot
be programmed to any other vehicle.

At the time of purchase, the original owner is provided
with a four digit PIN. This number is required for dealer
replacement of keys. Duplication of keys may be performed
at an authorized dealer or by using the Customer
Key Programming procedure. This procedure consists of
programming a blank key to the vehicle electronics. A
blank key is one which has never been programmed and
needs to be cut.
