Problem
LOL, I road race motorcycles so the first thing that jumped into my mind is how we safety wire our caliper bolts (and drain bolts, fill caps...etc)
Well... Since the fix the motor has ran like a champ and been super quiet, even at a cold start up. However, today I did my first oil change since the repair. I am 99% sure dodge put in there conventional oil and there mopar filter. I replaced it with a Bosch filter and Pensoil Platinum. Upon first start up the valvetrain was a bit noisy, to be expected because it takes a little longer to build pressure after the oil change. However for the rest of the day today, if I let the truck sit for 2-3hrs or more, it would have tick on start up. It would go away in 20-30 seconds, or if I tapped the gas to 2000-2500RPMs.
One note was that when I drained the truck it was definitely FULL... I got at least 7qts out, mabye even 7.25... I am guessing the dealer uses those oil filling machines, and not individual quart containers. I would guess the oil machines are set with a slight over fill bias.
Long story kinda short. I changed back to conventional with mopar filter and the noise was still there, so last night I took the truck to the dealer and had the mechanic that did the lifter fix do the work.
Well, the tech that did the lifter repair took a listen to my truck. He hears what I hear... said he doesnt think its a lifter, and almost definitely not an exhaust leak. He basically said:
-I would worry too much about a noise that quiet
-Said my oil pressure is good
-These motors are prone to tap/tick alot
-sounds like a hemi that has 100k miles(which mine does)
-doesnt hear any rod knock, but because the motor did have sludge in it from lack of oil changes the motor could have some wear, he thinks if COULD be a wrist pin
-If it gets louder bring it back in, otherwise he wouldnt worry about it.
Not really sure what to do now then. I guess just drive it. I am just afraid that if the truck blows up... well, blown up trucks are not worth much.
